Analysis of process limits for partial hot stamping with controlled pre-cooling by radiation exchange

Abstract The increasing demands on part complexity and tailored properties in form of local strength ductility cannot be achieved with conventionally manufactured hot stamped body components. To meet the requirements safety-relevant parts, partial stamping is increasingly used automotive industry. One approach to achieve parts based controlled cooling blank prior forming quenching. related furnace technology a chamber which cooled aluminum mask protects areas from thermal radiation while simultaneously absorbing blank’s own emitted radiation. sheet thickness utilized material significantly influence exchange present potential process limits. analyse these lower limits, blanks made materials 22MnB5 AS150 8MnB7 are partially pre-cooled different thicknesses. In addition, simulated AutoForm®R10 validated by obtained experimental results. results show that key influencing factor affects mechanical after stamping. Especially thicknesses t 0 2.25 mm can limit process, as effectiveness for pre-cooling phase transformation decreases.
